Common Questions
Everything you need to know about hosting HTML the fast way.
What is host-html?
host-html is the fastest way to put an HTML file on the internet. Drag-and-drop a file or paste code, click Publish, and get a live, shareable URL in seconds. A free account takes 5 seconds — then no git, no deploy pipeline.
How do I share an HTML presentation?
Just drop your HTML presentation file onto host-html and hit Publish. You'll get a public URL and a QR code you can share in meetings, emails, or Slack. Perfect for AI-generated decks, pitch decks, and interactive slide replacements.
Can AI agents publish HTML pages?
Yes! AI agents like Claude Code, Cursor, and Windsurf can publish directly via the host-html skill or REST API. Install the skill with one command and your agent can go from generating HTML to a live URL — zero human intervention.
What are collections?
A collection groups several of your pages behind one shareable link at /c/your-name — a portfolio, a showcase, or a client handoff. One URL instead of ten. You curate the order, add a blurb to each page, and publish when it's ready. Collections come with every paid plan — Pro, Studio and Agency.
How is a collection different from a single page?
A page is one HTML file at /p/slug. A collection is a curated set of those pages at /c/slug, with its own title and description. Pages stay independent — a collection just gives the whole set one link, in the order you choose.
Can my team share a collection?
Yes. On Studio and Agency — the plans with teammate seats — a collection can belong to your team, so every member can add pages, reorder, and publish it. On Pro, collections are personal to your account. Either way it's the same feature — one link for a set of pages.
How long do pages stay live?
Create a free account (it's instant) and you can publish as many pages as you like — each one stays live for 3 days. Pro pages ($9/month) live forever, so a link you sent a client still opens in six months. Pro also unlocks custom slugs, password protection, and view analytics.
Is there an API for publishing?
Yes. Send a POST request with your HTML to our publish endpoint, authenticated with a personal API key from your Account page, and get back a URL instantly. Check the API section on our homepage for the full request/response format.
Do I need to sign up?
Yes — publishing needs a free account, and it takes about 5 seconds. There's no limit on how many pages you publish; each one stays live for 3 days and sits in your library where you can manage it. Pro ($9/month) adds permanent hosting, custom slugs, and analytics.
What's the file size limit?
Free tier supports up to 1 MB per page — plenty for most HTML files and presentations — with no limit on how many pages you publish. Pro allows up to 10 MB, and Studio and Agency go up to 50 MB for larger pages with embedded assets.
How do I grade a quiz hosted on host-html?
Turn on “Collect responses” for the page, then set a pass mark and a score-out-of in the Edit dialog — 70 out of 100 by default if you leave them blank. Every scored response is graded against that setting, which drives the pass rate, the gradebook, the live dashboard, and certificates.
Where do I see who passed?
/p/your-page/stats → Responses shows a gradebook once your page has scored responses: a pass-rate tile, a passed count, a grade-band breakdown, and a sortable table with a PASS/FAIL mark per person, exportable to CSV. It's on every paid plan and covers the most recent 500 responses.
Can I run a quiz live in a classroom?
Yes — /p/your-page/live is a projector view with a ranked leaderboard, live pass rate, and participant count, polling every few seconds as answers come in. It's owner-only, the same access as your stats page, so it's never a public leaderboard and participant names are never shown to visitors. On every paid plan.
How do people get a certificate?
Only participants who pass get one — a branded PDF with their name, score, percentage and date. Add a button to your quiz that calls window.hostHtml.certificate() after the result is shown; the browser only allows it from a real click, so it has to fire directly from that button's own click handler, not after an await or inside a submit().then(). You can also issue certificates in bulk from the gradebook. On every paid plan.
Why doesn't my page's download button do anything?
Hosted pages run in a locked-down sandbox that blocks file downloads by default, so an in-page "download" your own HTML generates (a PDF, a CSV, an image) silently fails. Turn on “In-page downloads” for that page in the Edit dialog and your existing download code starts working with no changes. It's off by default, per page, on every paid plan.
